Placing Off Season Sports Gear In Storage

Hi there, my name is Becky Strichertz. Welcome to my website about placing off season sports gear in storage. When I was playing sports through college, I placed myself on every team I could to learn all about the sports world. I hoped to develop a strong reputation as a sports star at my school. Not long after my first year, my apartment was filled to the brim with gear. I decided to place the items in storage during the off season. I will explore this topic in great detail on my site. I invite you to tag along to learn about this fun subject.

What Self Storage Features Matter For You

Figuring out what services to buy can be challenging, especially when everything sounds good. With self storage, you could end up paying too much if you opt for refrigerated storage with armed security guards and military-grade blast walls for a few old clothes and furniture, but if you're storing goods for your business, that may be perfect. Here's an overview of storage facility features to understand what qualities matter.

Air Conditioning And Refrigeration

Keeping your belongings at a stable temperature is only relevant for certain types of objects. Perishable foods or items with low melting points such as wax often need refrigeration, but seemingly sturdy machines may need at least air conditioning to avoid damage.

If you're storing consumer electronics, going without air conditioning is a mistake. Many sensitive electrical traces, sensors, and storage media can melt and warp on the inside with no outside indications, leaving your computers and stereos in poor or no working condition.

Perishable foods in refrigerated storage are as good as using a home or grocery refrigerator, but be sure to ask about backup power options. Since you don't live at the storage unit, it's hard to know if power outages happen, how often, and how long the power stays out. At least knowing that backup power options exist can keep your goods safer, and you won't have to argue about compensation.

Security Features At All Levels

The most basic type of self storage facility is a shed with a metal loop for you to add your own lock. These are fine if you're just throwing a trash bag of old clothes or some inexpensive furniture into storage, but anything valuable enough to make a few hundred bucks at a pawn shop should be worth more protection.

Opt for indoor storage at the most basic level if security is a concern. These facilities control who comes in and out more than a few storage sheds in a field, and a perimeter fence can help out a lot.

Security cameras are a must, both as a deterrent and to find successful thieves. Be sure to stand in front of security cameras at a specific day and time, then ask for footage from that day to confirm that security cameras are working and not just fake cameras used as deterrent.

Security guards are harder to check, because the most you can confirm is that they're not sleeping at the job. If you have time, show up at the facility during odd hours of the morning to be sure that guards are at least aware. No need to do this more than once a month; even if you're legitimately concerned, a security guard would be right to call the police on a customer who shows up on a weekly basis just to stare and be suspicious.

Contact a self storage facility to discuss other features, and be sure to keep a close eye on the feature performance when you agree to rent/lease. Visit a site like http://www.sentryministorage.com for more help.
